Great review from Andrew Byers for "The Battle for Eden"

Very nice review done by Andrew Byers on his blog "Tales from the Bookworm's Lair", discussing my newest novel "The Battle for Eden", as well as Charles Gramlich's novel "Under the Ember Star" which was paired with my story in the double paperback from Wildside Books.   Here's the web address of his website where the review is posted:     http://bibliorex.wordpress.com/    Thanks for the nice thoughts, Andrew!

9-20-12: The Battle for Eden is out in e-book on Amazon and Barnes&Noble

Nice to see my latest book, "The Battle for Eden" out in Kindle and NookBook e-book formats.  Sales are heavier for e-books these days than for paperbacks.  The way of the future, it seems. Writing sci-fi, I guess I should find the digital age quite comforting, lol.   Working on my next novel, "Dark Angels"; over 1/2 way through that novel now.  Busy times ahead, so not sure how quickly I'll get it done, but it WILL be finished!  Just had a nice dinner w/ my lovely wife Denise, now back to work on Dark Angels.   ta-ta,   ~M

8-29-12 Update...

Looong work day today, saved a bunny w/ a bowel blockage (surgery successful!).   My publisher, Wildside Press, just announced that my latest book, "The Battle for Eden" is now available in e-book format; should be up on Amazon and Barnes&Noble websites soon!  Glad to see it-- e books are more popular than ever, these days, so I hope there will be lots of interest in my story and also in Charles Gramlich's tale on the reverse cover of the book ("Under the Ember Star").   Be well, all...   ~M

August 18 2012:  Just spent part of the day at the Portland Reptile Expo, doing free exams and seeing lots of different snakes, lizards & turtles...met current and future clients as well!  Just got a nice review of my newest novel "The Battle for Eden" which is published by Borgo Press/ Wildside Press...here's the link:   http://randall120.wordpress.com/2012/08/18/under-the-ember-starthe-battle-for-eden-charles-allen-gramlich-mark-e-burgess/#comment-9838    A similar review is posted now on  Amazon's listing of the double novel; it reviews both my story ("Eden") and Charles Gramlich's story ("Under the Ember Star").  Hopefully we'll get a couple more reviews out soon.
Also just received my author's copy of a new veterinary textbook on small animal reproduction; I contributed 6 chapters to that text.  Its title is "Management of Pregnant and Neonatal Dogs, Cats & Exotic Pets."

another day, another life saved!

8-8-12:  worked on all sorts of animals today: ferrets, a chameleon, bearded dragon (lizard), sugar glider (gliding marsupial), siberian dwarf hamster, boa constrictor, to name a few.  Just got word from publisher that my 1st novel, "Dog Daze & Cat Naps", has been picked up as an audio book!  Also got word from another (nonfiction) publisher than a veterinary textbook on exotic animal reproduction is finally coming out in print; I contributed 6 chapters to that text, and have been waiting for my copy for many months. (I could use it at work!)  Making lots of friends on Facebook, especially in the American ferret community.  Time to call it a day...  my wife is reading "Battle for Eden" again, now that it's out in book form (she saw the manuscript before it was published, of course).   G'night, all.  ~MB

Busy day today...

...got some writing done on my current novel, "Dark Angels"--another Knacker tale. Spent a lot of time doing my day job (veterinarian, working with exotic pets)...saw ferrets, rabbits, a rat, tortoise, bearded dragon (Australian lizard), python, and yes, even a dog or two (unusual for us, lol).   Everyone lived!  ...so it was a good day.   Back to work on writing now; it's like holding down 2 jobs being a writer AND a vet. `:-p

Well, this is the first of (hopefully) many entries on this blog... just had my 2nd novel come out in print. It's called "The Battle for Eden" and is a fun little tale about the far future, when humanity is locked in a desperate war with big, nasty alien creatures who view humans as edible delicacies, mmmm!  Needless to say, "dinner" isn't too happy, hence the conflict!  Here's the synopsis from the book's inner cover:
"A spacefaring horde of carnivorous crab-like aliens known as the Knackers is advancing toward the human core worlds, decimating outlying systems as they go. When the invaders approach Eden, one of the most beautiful and populous planets in the Human Federation, it is up to SpaceForce to make a stand.
In the skies over Eden, the battle rages—and one war-weary fighter, Major Simon Roy, falls to ground in his wounded ship. There he takes refuge with a brave family of farmers living peacefully in the idyllic countryside. When the aliens overwhelm the planet, the impromptu companions find themselves isolated and in peril. As they fight for survival, can Simon rediscover his humanity, and find a way to make his own stand against an enemy that has never been defeated?"
So there you go... check it out if you get a chance; read the first chapter free on my facebook site as "authorvet"...go to 'Notes" on the left upper page margin, and you'll find free samples of all my books!  Enjoy!  ~MB
